Positively Me!

What is the Positively Me! program?

The Positively Me! program is a free two-session program, originally created by the Junior League of Greenwich, designed specifically for 3rd-grade girls, and is free to girls that go to school or live in our service area. The program’s primary intention is to boost confidence, encourage self-expression, and equip girls with strategies to handle peer pressure and bullying effectively. Through engaging and supportive activities, participants take pride in themselves, make new friends, and build self-esteem. Participating girls will develop the skills to be confident, make good decisions, be assertive, and to express themselves, all while meeting new friends and having lots of fun!

During each two-day session, the girls participate in a variety of interactive activities including: martial arts/board breaking, dance/creative movement, art projects, volunteering, and role-play activities. The activities are designed to keep the girls fully engaged while teaching them the necessary skills of confidence, decision-making, assertiveness, and expression.

Friday February 27th –  PJ Pizza Party 5:30-8:30pm

On Friday night, the girls are introduced to positive self-esteem through icebreakers, games, small group discussions and board breaking that teaches them they have the strength they need to overcome any obstacle. The first day has a Pajama Party theme and a pizza party, and the girls are encouraged to make new friends!

Saturday February 28th – 10am-3pm

On Saturday there are breakout sessions with exciting exercises. The day begins with an art project lead by local female artists, who share positive messages with the girls while guiding them through art prompts. Next is the “Bully Project” which teaches the girls the effects of bullying and being bullied. In a series of rotations the girls will also participate in a role-playing session where they learn strategies for addressing real-life situations that affect their self-esteem and friendships, focus on appreciating themselves and their abilities by creating a VIP doll which represents their good qualities, and a volunteer project that introduces the mission of the JLG and emphasizes the importance of giving back as they write cards for residents at a local nursing home (or any service project you may want to substitute). The girls also participate in a group dance activity, discussions on health and hygiene, and get to make a bracelet to remind them of their strengths after the program is over. The day ends with a graduation style ceremony in which each girl receives recognition for completing the program.
